Fires

Consumed by a virtual realist set in a reimagined 1950s, a player’s longing for motherhood transcends the rules of the game. Drawing form dystopian video games, 1950s advertisements and whitewashing in entertainment, ‘Fires’ looks into a not too distant future where simulated worlds become personal realities.

‘Fires’ is a collaboration between directors Natalie Erika James, Ben Morgan and artist, Life is Better Blonde. Natalie Erika James is a Japanese-Australian writer & director with an interest in elevated genre. She works on music videos, short and feature films, and directs commercials through Fiction (fiction.net.au). Ben Morgan brings his camera & lighting background to directing, and has a particular interest in action thrillers and period films.

Life is Better Blonde is the result of lost and discovered voice memos, late-night musings and discarded production scraps. Taking cues from the likes of Flying Lotus, James Blake and Arthur Russell, the music is both introverted and deeply personal, while displaying a grit common to glitch and electronica.
