Peril interview with artist Daniel Boyd (7 December 2012)

Daniel Boyd is exhibiting as part of The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT7), 8 December 2012 — 14 April 2013, Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) and Queensland Art Gallery (QAG).

“Daniel Boyd is a younger-generation Aboriginal artist who has built a strong reputation as a painter. Boyd has recently looked at the ‘dot’ as a lens – a way of seeing the world – and has applied this in his recent paintings, which feature an overlay of clear resin dots. These become a lens through which the world is viewed and distorted, commenting on information known and unknown that, taken together, creates an entire view. Boyd’s great-great paternal grandfather was brought from Pentecost Island, in what is now Vanuatu, to Queensland to labour in the sugarcane fields. These new works also explore alternative genealogies and the extent to which Indigenous and indentured labour histories can be traced. An exciting video work will also feature as part of Boyd’s selection in APT7, where light, colour and sound create an immersive environment through which we are able to appreciate his dotted world-view.”
