Call for Submissions: Japanese Poetry

July 21, 2017 - August 20, 2017

water chain on guttering of a Japanese building with forest background.

A new poetry festival celebrating the influence of Japanese poetry in Australia will take place in Melbourne in the last week of September. The festival is cross-cultural in nature, featuring the work of Japanese-Australian writers (such as a tanka group, a haiku poet and more) and Australian authors influenced by Japanese styles and themes. Events are currently planned to take place at the University of Melbourne and in Melbourne city.

We are seeking expressions of interest from:

-Japanese-Australian poets and people interested in talking about poetry.

-Women of Japanese background interested in reading works by female Japanese poets.

We also welcome general expressions of interest and other proposals.

Please email festival contact Elizabeth ASAP at e.beaton@unimelb.edu.au

Please note: Peril provides these details as a courtesy, but we’re not in charge of the events, so please don’t harrass us if the Facebook page is down for a particular event – unless we make that really really clear, in which case you’ll know because we’ll probably be hounding to you come along.

We’re free to access and want to keep it that way. If you want to ensure Asian Australian voices – in all their diversity and complexity – continue to be heard, please consider making a donation.
