Peril Magazine – Get INVOLVED!

The sign says it all.

Without our dedicated team of volunteers, Peril would be nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

So we’re pretty excited to be on the hunt for some great new folk to join our team in a range of roles.

For almost ten years now, we have worked with our communities, our contributors and our supporters to share the voices of literally hundreds of incredible writers, poets, artists, thinkers, commentators, critics and community members who are invested in understanding the great, mythical hydra that is Asian Australian arts and culture. And we believe that you have something incredible to add to that legacy – all you have to do is put your hand up!

Volunteers are mostly paid in glory*, but some of our positions also have a small stipend, which is provided in addition to devoted adoration, critical peer engagement, and all the Lee Lin Chin tweets you can handle. At the moment, Peril is on the lookout for two new editorial team members: Prose Editor and Politics and Arts Editor. The details are as follows.

Our Prose Editor will:

  • Work with the editorial team and board to contribute to strategic direction and management
  • Attend monthly editorial meetings to determine editorial priorities and themes
  • Solicit and review submissions for Peril’s regular editions
  • Edit, proof and fact check (where required) copy
  • Upload and manage submissions for publications
  • Contribute to social media platforms.

Our Politics and Arts Editor will:

  • Work with the editorial team and board to contribute to strategic direction and management
  • Attend monthly editorial meetings to determine the publishing calendar and priorities for blog posts
  • Solicit and review blog pitches and submissions in coordination with other editorial members
  • Edit, proof and fact check (where required) copy
  • Upload and manage submissions for publications
  • Contribute to social media platforms.

Both amazing editors will have:

  • Editorial and/or journalism experience and passion
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management
  • An ability to work with a remote/on-line team
  • An investment in and passion for issues of relevance to Asian Australians
  • A commitment to working in a culturally diverse team environment, with a respect for diversity of opinions, peoples and cultures.

If you are interested in either of these roles, please get in touch via [email protected] or send a preliminary contact message if you want to chat.

  • A cover letter explaining a little about who you are and why you’d like to be an #awesomeperilperson
  • A short (2 page) resume
  • Up to three writing samples, preferably by URL.

Applications are open until 29 May 2015.

*Actual glory may differ somewhat from packaging, but we will appreciate the heck out of you.
