Chinese Whispers

November 23, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm AEDT

CHINESE WHISPERS is a digital graphic novel by Rani P Collaborations, inspired by the racial and sexual violence of May 1998 in Indonesia. Guided through a labyrinth of testimonies by Chinese-Indonesian women across Melbourne’s West and Indonesia, the novel asks audiences to contemplate the notion “You cannot heal what you will not face.”

CHINESE WHISPERS has come a long way since its inception as part of the Emerging Cultural Leaders program at Footscray Community Arts Centre, with more than 10,000+ readers globally and a series of international festivals presenting the work. The event will include a screening of the full digital graphic novel, followed by a Q&A and discussion with lead artist, Rani Pramesti and vocalist/ composer, Ria Soemardjo over Indonesian sweets, snacks and teas.

Rani Pramesti – Lead artist and producer
Ria Soemardjo – Composer, musician and vocalist
Cindy Saja – Illustrator

Martin Harusetyanto – Web developer (Back End)
