Editorial team announcements

Peril Magazine is delighted to welcome two new members to its editorial team – Jarni Blakkarly and Lia Incognita.

Peril readers may already be familiar with both Jarni and Lia’s work, as both have contributed previously to themed editions and our blog; we are delighted that these two people will be able to contribute to Peril in more developed roles.

Jarni Blakkarly will be taking on the new role of Politics and Arts Editor – look out soon for his call for volunteers to help contribute to our current affairs coverage on matters related to Asian Australian culture! Based in Melbourne, Jarni has a background in journalism and his work has been published across various online publications in Australia, including Crikey, Overland and The Conversation.

Lia Incognita, acting Prose Editor, is a Shanghai-born cultural commentator living in Boonwurrung and Wurundjeri country. Ey will be supporting us as acting Prose Editor for the upcoming Edition 19, so also stay tuned for the coming call for submissions for the next editions. Lia has written for Overland, performed at La Mama Poetica and The Famous Spiegeltent, and spoken on panels for Cherchez La Femme, Beyond Borders and Colourfest. Ey also broadcasts for Queering the Air on 3CR Community Radio.

In addition to Jarni and Lia’s new roles, we are pleased to announce that Lian Low will be taking a break as Editor in Chief to focus on some exciting new projects. Lian has been with the Peril team since 2009, holding multiple roles over her time. Her dedication, energy and professionalism – as well as deep commitment to rigour and ethics in publication – have been an absolute cornerstone of Peril’s work. Luckily, we will be retaining Lian’s input at Editor at Large, so you will be seeing her by-line in due course. To support this, Eleanor Jackson, Poetry Editor, will also be taking on the role of Editor in Chief, with Nikki Lam continuing her work as Visual Arts Editor and Hoa Pham, our long-time Editorial Advisor and founding editor still on board!

We’re keen to connect with you about your ideas and thoughts for Peril in the future, so please be encouraged to stay in touch via Facebook or Twitter or directly via the contact page.

As always, you can find out more Jarni and Lia and the entire Peril Editorial Team here, and we welcome your thoughts and feedback via [email protected].
