It’s a cliche, but an exceedingly real one: this past year has absolutely flown by. Though, in some ways, there were times throughout 2017 when it felt like a never-ending dystopia… so I think it’s with mixed feelings that this year draws to a close. The end of the year is often such a period of reflection, and also a time of hope for what’s to come. One of my favourite things about this time of year, though, is taking a look back at the music that soundtracked us the whole way through. So, amongst all of the swathes of end-of-year music lists, here is a You Don’t Sound Asian addition: ‘a year gone by.’
This playlist features a restorative and celebratory selection of tunes from artists who all changed the game in 2017. With throwbacks from Mitski and Madame Gandhi, and songs-of-the-year from Fazerdaze, Rina Sawayama, Leisure Suite, Japanese Breakfast, Wafia, Jay Som and Rainbow Chan, this is the perfect playlist to wind down to over the festive season. Having a family do over Christmas? Chuck it on! Hanging with friends? We’ve got you sorted. Laying in the sun with your dog and sleeping off a food coma? It’s good for that too, I promise.
Thank you so much for supporting this new Peril venture over the last few months – we appreciate it a truckload, and are very excited to keep the You Don’t Sound Asian tunes and goodies coming in 2018. To have a look at our past playlists, jump over to our Soundcloud, and give us a follow while you’re at it.
The warmest festive greetings to you and yours from us at Peril. Catch you next year!
