People of Colour Conference

July 22, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm AEST

For the first time, students of colour across Australia will have the chance to come together, network and collaborate at the University of Melbourne Student Union’s People of Colour Conference.

Held on 23-24 July at the University of Melbourne, the conference encourages attendance from all students identifying as people of colour due to their African, Asian, Pacific Islander, Aboriginal, Indigenous, Lantinx, Arab, multiracial or other relevant non-white background.

Attendees will have the chance to participate in workshops, panels and keynote addresses with prominent people of colour in professional fields. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet likeminded people and learn skills to increase representation for people of colour on a university level.

Founding Editor, Hoa Pham and current, Editor in Chief, Eleanor Jackson will be speaking on Sunday at the conference.

Students enrolled at ANY tertiary institution in Australia are able to attend.

Tickets can be booked here.

If you are interested in running a workshop, you can apply here.

The University of Melbourne Student Union will also be offering a limited number of equity grants for students requiring financial assistance. You can apply here.

For any questions, please get in contact with Yan Zhuang, UMSU Welfare Officer

Please note: Peril provides these details as a courtesy, but we’re not in charge of the events, so please don’t harrass us if the Facebook page is down for a particular event – unless we make that really really clear, in which case you’ll know because we’ll probably be hounding to you come along.

We’re free to access and want to keep it that way. If you want to ensure Asian Australian voices – in all their diversity and complexity – continue to be heard, please consider making a donation.
